Quentin Hsu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He studied Drama and Theatre at National Taiwan University and Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University, where he received his BA. During college, he collaborated with students at Beijing Film Academy on numerous projects, including his directorial debut short film, “Catching Cold” (2008).
He started working as an assistant to numerous Chinese directors for several years before writing “(Sex) Appeal” (2014), which premiered at Busan International Film Festival. He was nominated for an Asian New Talent Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. He worked as a writer and producer on numerous film and series projects with Coolie Films over the past decade. As a filmmaker, he is interested in exploring human tendency towards self-deception and the many reasons behind it.
