Masquerades
Dissatisfied with the court decision that obliges the masked ones of the Divino’s Festivity to leave with an identification number, a group of them tries to invade the city hall. Four young men, workers in a quarry, deal in different ways with the eminence of the party and the exploitation of work. In the film, the revolt is the space outside the action and the characters define themselves in relation to the events.
Masquerades started with a short story about the players of the Divino Espírito Santo’s Festivity in Pirenópolis, Goiás. The film takes the form of a feature film when we see the relationships between the Masquerades at the party and the quarry workers, with their faces covered to protect them from the soot of the stones. The script was born later, from the coexistence with the brothers Marcos and Marcilei Caetano. As we filmed, we saw the need to create a fiction that is born from the cracks of documentary.
